Board of Directors

The members of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Health & Research Foundation, Inc. act as key leaders and advocates, who play a vital role in the ability of the Foundation to fulfill it’s mission. The Trustees bring their experience and expertise to the Board in discharging their legal and fiduciary responsibilities over the Foundation’s governance and operations. All of the members of CHRF play a vital role in fulfilling and furthering the Foundation’s mission, with honesty and integrity.

Martin Gorman

Executive Director

Martin Gorman is the Executive Director of the Children’s Health and Research Foundation, Inc. 

Mr. Gorman is a highly skilled and experienced business law attorney, with extensive knowledge of corporate governance and compliance matters

Nicholas Palumbo

Chairman

Nicholas Palumbo is the founding partner and managing director of Opus Advisory Group, LLC, located in Purchase, New York. Nick has dedicated his nearly thirty-year career to providing expert financial counsel and resources to help client partners build wealth and reach financial independence. He brings considerable wealth building and corporate benefits experience to the Opus team.

Vinay Sharma

CHRF Board of Directors

Vinay Sharma works at Facebook in their Global Marketing Solutions group and is the newest addition to the CHRF Board of Directors.

Vinay brings extensive business acumen and marketing experience to CHRF given his jobs at major corporations for the past 20+ years.

Lisa Striar

Psy.D.

Lisa Striar, Psy.D. is a licensed child psychologist and diagnostician with specialized training in neuropsychological and psycho-educational assessment.

Dr. Striar has a private practice in Rye Brook, New York, where she evaluates children and adolescents, who are struggling with learning and emotional issues.

Roger Imperial

Treasurer

Roger Imperial presently is a Senior Consultant with Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, Inc. and Member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Green Energy Cooperative, New York, New York, Vice Chairman of Acordia, Inc., (purchased by Wells Fargo Insurance Services) and Senior Vice President of Wells Fargo Insurance Services of New York, Inc.

Robert Braumuller

Secretary

Robert Braumuller is a Partner at Bleakley Platt & Schmidt, LLP, where he heads the Health Care Practice Group and is a member of the Corporate Practice Group.

Robert has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bon Secours New York Health System.

Jacqueline Dunbar

MD

Dr. Jacqueline L. Dunbar is a native New Yorker. She was born, raised, and educated in the Bronx, and since 1965 she has been a resident of Westchester County. After graduating from Evander Childs High School, Dr. Dunbar earned a B.S. degree from New York University . She next earned a M.A. degree from Hunter College, and then her M.D . degree from the historic Women’s Medical College of Philadelphia (Medical College of Pennsylvania), now known as the Drexel University College of Medicine.

Cheryl Hunter-Grant

Vice President, Perinatal Progams

Cheryl Hunter-Grant is Vice President for Perinatal Programs of the Children’s Health and Research Foundation, Inc. and Executive Director of the Lower Hudson Valley Perinatal Network. 

She has thirty five years of professional experience, with increasing responsibilities in the areas of community-based programs, social services, public health, and not-for-profit organizations.

Leonard Newman, MD

Physicians of Westchester

Leonard Newman, MD is the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at New York Medical College and the President of Children’s & Women’s Physicians of Westchester, LLP.

The Department of Pediatrics at New York Medical College was one of the first in the country to train pediatricians, dating back to the 1860’s in New York City. As such, it was the first to incorporate bedside teaching rounds in the training of physicians.

Mitchell Cairo, MD

Dr. Mitchell S. Cairo received his M.D. from UC San Francisco, trained in pediatrics at UCLA / Harbor General Hospital, was Chief Resident in pediatrics at UCSF, and completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology / oncology at Indiana University. He joined the hematology / oncology faculty of Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in 1982 and established the BMT/Stem Cell Transplant program there in 1985.

Dr. Michael Gewitz is Physician-in-Chief / Executive Director and Chief of Pediatric Cardiologyat Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center. 

He is also Professor and Vice Chairman of Pediatrics for New York Medical College.

Named one of the “Best Doctors in America” by American Health Magazine, Dr. Gewitz has also been included every year since inception in the America’s Best Doctors publications, as well as New York Magazine’s Best Doctors in New York listings.

Edmund LaGamma, MD

Edmund LaGamma, MD is Professor of Pediatrics, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and is the Chief of the Division of Newborn Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics of the New York Medical College.

He is The Director of The Regional Neonatal Center of the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center.
